The River of Paradise

SOLD
Picture
I remember the first time my cousin took me to the river. When we arrived you had to go down a big hill that took you to the river bank. I thought the best view was from the top. It was like being on the high balconies of the ballet, with a panoramic view of the whole area. People were jumping from the rope swings into the river, with such joy and happiness, they looked so natural floating in the air and then falling and blending with the water. Here people swam in dark waters, danced in each other's arms and kissed under the surface. The river was their silent accomplice. Photo by Soapbox Arts

The Devil and the güao plant, a dispute of hierarchy in the mountains.
Private Collection of the Artist

Picture
Deep in the mountain, you will find the lush smells and foliage. Here you are silent witnesses, to a dreamlike scene, the struggle between the Devil and the guao bush ( a poisonous plant that causes the skin to swell.) This piece leads us through Cuban mythology, as a symbolic landscape that is articulated through the metaphysical, the imaginary. Before you, you find a scene of tension, a dispute to find out who will prevail, the plant or the evil?

The forbidden romance of Countess Gomez for the town of Remedios
Private Collection of the Artist

Picture
In the town of Remedios, there was a legend of two lovers, who were persecuted in town. They were from two different worlds and were not supposed to be together. Their story, like so many tragic love stories, was destined for uncertainty and the unknown. They decided to leave the town to escape to the mountains together. The wilderness called to them It said, “Follow the road through the sugarcane field and there you will find what you are looking for, it will heal your wounds.” They wrapped themselves in the magical surroundings of the natural landscape, they covered their bodies wounded by judgment and prejudice, until their love was healed.

Cuidad de Bandidos - City of Bandits

Picture
SOLD

City of Bandits, speaks to the Cuban Reality, a reality that has been transformed into a jungle, where chaos reigns. Chaos that connects and gives meaning to all things. A place where everyone fights for survival, and only the strongest survives. Morality is the only thing that distinguishes those who fight for what is right, as the line of right and wrong becomes more and more difficult to see. All of these stories take place in a tropical, humid environment, the landscape, plants and all of the intriguing colors can become a trap to those who observe them.

Ser suyo entre extraños y extraño entre los tuyos

A friend among strangers, a stranger among friends

Picture
SOLD
Ser suyo entre extraños y extraño entre los tuyos dialogues about identity, trauma and feeling like an imposter. As we grow up and out into the world, how do we reckon with our past experiences, traumas and culture? Every generation brings its own ideas and identity to the forefront; what happens when these new identities clash intrinsically with historical norms and the collective expectations. What happens when you feel like an outsider with those who are meant to be your peers? When strangers feel like kindred spirits? How do you begin to know and recognize yourself in a strange, new world?
